Six brands.
No stock list.
We're not a single-brand dealer, so there's nothing in the van we need to get rid of. That means we can tell you the honest version: what the extra money buys, and when it isn't worth spending.
How to read this
Three tiers, and what separates them
All six are real manufacturers with proper support in New Zealand. None of them is a trap. What moves as you go up the range is how quiet the unit is, how well it holds output on the coldest mornings, and how long it keeps its efficiency.
Value
Midea · Haier
Large global manufacturers at the accessible end. These are the units behind most "from $X installed" advertising. Sized correctly, in a bedroom or a sleepout, they do the job they're asked to do.
Middle
Carrier
Sits between the two ends, and comes into its own on ducted and light commercial work. A sensible pick when you want a step up from entry level without going all the way to the top of the range.
Premium
Mitsubishi · Daikin · Fujitsu
The three people ask for by name. You're paying for quieter running, better behaviour in the cold, and a build that holds its efficiency further into its life.
The single most expensive mistake isn't picking the cheaper brand. It's picking the wrong capacity. A correctly sized entry-level unit will outperform an oversized premium one every day of the week.
Brand by brand
Where each one earns its place
This is our view from installing and servicing them, not a spec sheet. Ask us for the model numbers on your quote and you can check the figures yourself.
Mitsubishi
Premium · main living areas
The most requested by name in Auckland homes, and for a fair reason — it runs quietly and holds its output when the morning is genuinely cold. Parts and service support here are well established, which matters in year eight, not year one.
Daikin
Premium · whole-house and ducted
The range runs from a single high-wall right through to full ducted systems, so it's usually where we land when one system has to serve several rooms. Strong all-rounder in a standalone room too.
Fujitsu
Premium · bedrooms, light sleepers
Long-standing in New Zealand and straightforward to service, which keeps the running cost of ownership sensible. A good answer when the unit is going somewhere noise would be noticed.
Carrier
Middle · ducted and commercial
Comes into its own on ducted and light commercial jobs. If you want more than entry level without paying top-of-range money, this is usually the conversation.
Midea
Value · spare rooms, rentals
One of the largest manufacturers in the world, and the reason an affordable install can still be a proper install. Keeps the total down without you ending up with something unsupported.
Haier
Value · second units, sleepouts
Same reasoning as Midea. Where it goes wrong is when someone undersizes it to hit a price — sized properly for the room, it's a sound call.
How we choose
What actually decides it for your room
The capacity the room needs
This comes first and it isn't negotiable. Floor area, ceiling height, glazing, aspect, insulation and what's open to what. The brand conversation only makes sense once we know the kilowatts.
Where the unit is going
A lounge unit and a bedroom unit get judged differently. In a bedroom, how quietly it runs on low matters more than anything on the brochure.
High-wall or ducted
One room or the whole house changes the shortlist straight away. Some ranges are far deeper in ducted than others, and that narrows it for us before price does.
Your budget, said out loud
Tell us the number you had in mind. We'd rather fit the right capacity in a value brand than the wrong capacity in a premium one, and we'll say so.
Warranty
Why there's no warranty table on this page
Every brand sets its own warranty, the terms differ by model, and they change. Printing a number here that's out of date by the time you read it would be worse than printing nothing.
So we do it the other way round: the quote you get names the exact model, and the manufacturer's warranty for that model goes on the quote in writing. Our workmanship is separate from it and sits with us.
Most manufacturer warranties also depend on the unit being installed by a qualified installer and serviced as specified. That's worth knowing before you compare two quotes on price alone.
Ask any installer this
Whoever you're getting quotes from, ask for the model number and the capacity in kW on the quote. Two quotes that look the same can be a size apart, and that's the difference you'll live with.
We service all six
Including units we didn't install. If you inherited a heat pump with the house, we can still service, clean and repair it.
