Heat pump installation, sized for the room

Most of the heat pumps we get called out to fix weren't broken. They were the wrong size for the space from day one. We measure the room before we quote, and we fit six brands, so the recommendation is about your room and not about our stock.

Room size and a photo of the wall is usually all we need.

Why the sizing matters

An undersized unit never catches up

Put a small unit in a big open-plan living area and it runs flat out all evening without ever getting the room warm. You pay for the power, you don't get the heat, and the compressor wears out early doing it. Oversized has its own problem. It short-cycles, so the room swings hot and cold and the air never gets properly dried out.

Getting it right is a measurement, not a guess: floor area, ceiling height, how much glass, which way the room faces, insulation. That's the first thing we do, and it's free.

We measure first

Room dimensions, glazing and aspect, all before any number gets quoted.

Six brands to pick from

Fujitsu, Daikin, Mitsubishi, Midea, Carrier and Haier. No dealer tie-in pushing one of them.

One fixed number

Unit plus labour, in writing, same day. It doesn't move on install day.

What the price covers

Installation from $500

That's the labour to install a standard high-wall unit. The unit itself is supplied separately, and which one you choose is what moves the total. A Midea for a bedroom is a very different figure to a Mitsubishi for an open-plan living area.

Tell us the room and we'll give you the whole number, unit and labour together, so you're comparing one figure against the other quotes you've got.

Included in every install

  • Room sizing and unit recommendation
  • Indoor and outdoor unit mounted and secured
  • Pipework run, insulated and taped
  • Condensate drain run to a legal discharge point
  • Electrical connection by a registered electrician
  • System vacuumed, charged and tested hot and cold
  • Controller walk-through before we leave
  • Manufacturer warranty registered for you

Long pipe runs, two-storey work, scaffolding or a ducted system are quoted on top, and quoted before we start, never after.

How an install goes

From your call to a warm room

1

You send the room

Dimensions and a photo of the wall. Two minutes on WhatsApp does it.

2

We size it and quote

Same day, in writing, with the unit we'd recommend and the reason why.

3

We book a day

Most single-storey high-wall installs are a half day. We tell you upfront if yours is longer.

4

Installed and tested

Run hot and cold in front of you, packaging taken away, warranty registered.

What a tidy install looks like

Anyone can hang a unit on a wall. The pipework, the drain fall and the outdoor bracket are where you can tell whether it was done properly.

Questions

Before you book an install

What's the total cost, not just the labour?
Labour starts at $500 and the unit is separate, so the total depends on capacity and brand. Give us the room and we'll come back with one figure covering both. That's the number worth comparing against other quotes.
Which brand should I go with?
Midea and Haier do the job well and keep the price down. Mitsubishi, Daikin and Fujitsu cost more and are quieter, better built and hold their efficiency longer. Carrier sits between them and is strong on ducted. Because we fit all six, we've got no reason to steer you anywhere except toward the one that suits your room and budget.
How long does it take?
A standard single-storey high-wall is usually half a day. Two-storey, long pipe runs or ducted takes longer, and we tell you which yours is at quoting time rather than on the day.
Do I need consent?
Most standard high-wall installs don't need building consent, but there are exceptions depending on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. We'll flag it before we start if yours is one.
Do you do ducted systems?
Yes. Ducted is a bigger job. It's quoted after we've seen the roof space and worked out the zoning, so it's a site visit rather than a phone quote.
