Not heating? Not cooling? Call us.
Ring the number and describe what it's doing. Nine times out of ten we can tell you on the phone whether it's something you can sort in five minutes, something we need to look at, or something that isn't worth repairing on a unit that old. All of that before anyone charges you a call-out.

Common faults
What it's usually doing, and what that usually means
None of this replaces looking at it, but it'll tell you roughly what you're dealing with before you ring.
Running but never gets warm
Most often a choked filter, an iced-up outdoor coil, or the unit is simply undersized for the room and always was. Sometimes it's low refrigerant, which means there's a leak to find. Topping it up without finding the leak just puts you back here next winter.
Water dripping inside
Almost always a blocked condensate drain. The water has nowhere to go so it backs up and comes out the front of the indoor unit. Usually a quick fix, but worth doing before it stains the wall or the floor.
Error code on the display
Every brand codes faults differently. Tell us the code and the brand when you ring and we'll usually know what part is involved and whether it's worth repairing before we come out.
Rattling, grinding or screeching
Fan bearings, a loose bracket, or something that's got into the outdoor unit. Grinding from the compressor is the expensive one. That's the point where repair versus replace becomes a real conversation.
How we charge
Diagnosis first, then a decision
We diagnose the fault and tell you what it costs to fix before we fix it. If the repair is close to the cost of a new unit, which happens with old compressors, we'll say so rather than quietly doing the work.
Repairs are priced after diagnosis because a blocked drain and a failed compressor are not the same job.
What we check, and why it matters
The same four symptoms come from a dozen different faults. This is how we tell them apart instead of guessing:
- Operating pressures and superheat read against the manufacturer's figures for that day's ambient temperature
- Current draw on the compressor and both fan motors, compared to the data plate
- Fault history pulled off the control board, not just the code showing on the display
- Temperature split across the indoor coil, which separates a gas problem from an airflow problem
Those four tell us whether you're looking at a small fix or a replacement conversation. Guessing at it from the outside is how people end up paying for a part that was never the fault.
